Overview

Euston Bowling Club is located on the edge of the electricity grid in rural New South Wales. The site faced some of the highest electricity tariffs in the state. As a large market customer, the club was also affected by significant Marginal Loss Factor and Distribution Loss Factor charges. These challenges made the site an ideal candidate for a more efficient and independent energy solution.

A hybrid microgrid was deployed to reduce reliance on the grid, improve resilience, and provide long-term energy security. The outcome is a stable and cost-effective energy supply for one of the region’s most important community hubs.

Challenges

  • Extremely high electricity tariffs for regional grid-edge customers
  • Significant MLF and DLF charges leading to elevated operational costs
  • Dependence on the grid with limited resilience during outages
  • Need for a sustainable and scalable power solution

Solution

CD Power implemented a hybrid microgrid designed to reduce grid dependence and ensure long-term power stability at the Euston Bowling Club.

  • 500 kW ground-mounted and carport solar generation
  • 300 kW / 1,250 kWh Battery Energy Storage System
  • 500 kVA diesel generator for backup supply
  • New site main switchboard and microgrid switchboard
  • Central microgrid controller for seamless on-grid and off-grid operation
  • On-site electric vehicle charging station
